A GREAT WAY TO GET OUT AND EXERCISE!
Dogsledding in Ontario's Algonquin Park area is
second to none with scenery to die for. Working
together with man's best friend to experience a
fabulous season often overlooked. Dogsledding
in Ontario is an invigorating way to get out and
enjoy our long Ontario Winters - and best of all,
it's really good excercise, and FUN for the whole
family! It's amazing how time is suspended while
you are out on the trail. As the woods slip past,
all you hear is the panting of dogs, the crunch
of snow under the pounding of padded feet, and
the muffled sounds of the forest, slumbering
under a winter mantle as you scoot past. Most
people are capable of driving a dogteam, we'll
show you how, introduce you to your dogs, and
you can drive your own dogteam on a private run!
With plenty of experience in the sport, you're in good
hands. Best of all, you'll learn how to handle your
own dogsled team. No passenger to carry, just you
and your own dogs! Dogsledding is not merely
standing on the runners - it's interactive and gives
you tons of exercise ~ it will inspire you!
PRIVATE RUNS FOR MAXIMUM FUN!
On the runners, you quickly learn to work in harmony with
the dogs - it's like skiing with a twist! You will pilot an
enthusiastic team of dogs, on a "closed loop" totally PRIVATE
wilderness trail system set up to safely teach you the art of
driving without any pressure from outside distractions.
Each of our many interconnected loops are designed to help
you learn easily and effectively - going from darn easy to
challenging at just the right pace for each individual. This
flexibility means you will learn how to be a musher while
working within your limits. The groups we've taught to drive
a dogteam always enjoy the thrills and challenges of
a run down the trail - coming back every year to go again.
AN INTERNATIONAL CLIENT BASE!
Our business is not a huge enterprise
with lineups of people waiting to try
the dogsledding, adding the unwanted
pressure of a large audience. We schedule
all our tours individually, so that just you
and your group will have the privacy
to learn at a pace that suits your skill level.
There's something for everyone here
at our business, and because of this
attention to detail, we have attracted
aspiring dogsledding enthusiasts from
around the globe! We try our very best
to keep everyone dogsledding in their
comfort zone, & having the best time!
DOGSLEDDING IS FUN FOR KIDS!
Dogsledding comes naturally to the young.
There's something for all ages and dogsledding
is something they'll remember for a long time!
Kids under ten can ride in the guide's basket, and
those ten and up can give dogsledding a try in
a safe, private setting! We've been at this a while
and have a system that works very well to get the
small frys driving circles around everyone! Parents
follow on their own teams, and are always amazed
at how keen children are at the interactive nature
of dogsledding and driving a dog team. Kids rock!
We've chosen our dogs to be good candidates
for this type of program, very huggable and friendly
for adults and children to handle and enjoy. Want
to meet the teams? Read about our Dogsledding Teams
learn more about each dogs, and what makes them
special We have an outstanding group of alaskans
and provide a quality one on one experience that will
'make a MUSHER' out of young and old dogsledders!
Speaking of our dogs - did you know they were celebrities?
Here they are starring in the 2010 Tim Horton's Commercial!
JOIN OUR MEDAL WINNING RACERS FOR SOME DOGSLEDDING!
Having a vast amount of experience with dogsledding and
more notably, dogsled racing - Penny Nicol and husband Matt,
have raced across Ontario and Michigan with their dog teams.
Penny began in 1994 and began racing in Ontario & Michigan,
on the Ontario Federation of Sled Dog Sports mid-distance
race circuit. Mid-Distance races average twenty to sixty miles
and are run straight through without stopping. After a very
successful racing career, she retired from racing, and in 2000 began
outfitting for the public, by dogteam and on horseback. Matt
took up dogsledding when he and Penny married in 1999 - and he's
suddenly been bitten by the 'racing bug'! Matt now excels at racing
and in his last racing year, finishing third in the Bancroft Race.
Penny has aged (and spread) since winning her gold medal back in '97
but those experiences shape our dogsledding tours to this day!
WHAT TO EXPECT FOR YOUR DOGSLEDDING TOUR?
When you arrive at the business, you park and check in
at the farmhouse to get paperwork and all the last minute
details. We have a heated cabin on the edge of the dogyard
that is a great spot to get ready for your dogsledding tour.
Your guide and helpers will take you to the dogyard, explain
everything you need to know to harness & drive a dogteam,
and then assist you to get the process underway. As you
get going, you'll warm up, & enjoy the thrill of harnessing
and driving a team of three or four amazing sled dogs!
Helpers help to get the dogteams out of the dogyard, and
then it's off for a run on our amazing trail system, 8 km
of groomed dogsled trails that twist and turn through the
most quiet and pristine forest you can imagine! With lots
of time for pictures & short breaks to enjoy your dogteam,
it's a day you will cherish forever! You can't even imagine
how thrilling, euphoric, and physical dogsledding can be.
We've been at this a while, & have sculpted this tour to fit
all activity levels. We can be very flexible, and accommodate
the needs of everyone from the physically fit to those wanting
more of a sightseeing tour. Your dogsledding tour will be a hit!
WHAT TIME OF DAY FOR US?!
Perhaps you enjoy speed, and are a thrill seeker?
Our MORNING runs are perfect for you! There is no
greater joy than flying down a fast trail, powering
around corners over trails packed hard from the cold
night, the wind in your face and the snow flying
from sixteen galloping paws! Morning runs are usually
a bit faster, and geared for folks who are into a thrill.
Families with kids, less physically active folks,
or people wanting more of a sightseeing dogsledding
tourwill be more interested in our afternoon run.
When the sun rises in the sky, things slow down
a bit and make for a more relaxing run. Our trails are
groomed and maintained by us, for maximum benefit.
WILL I GET COLD? WILL I BE ABLE TO DO IT?
We pride ourselves on providing a dogsledding
program that TEACHES the ART of being a good
musher. Our dogs are chosen for their ability!
Our groomed forest trails have plenty of curves
and thrills and 'interesting' corners to keep you
busy and warm! Most folks can do it, with help!
Working with your team, you'll stay active & warm,
and have a much better understanding of what it
takes to be a musher. You will have a brand new
respect for the awesome Alaskan Sled dog!
Dogsledding here means in depth, one on one
instruction ~ you and your group will be treated
to an exhilarating dogsledding trip without a lineup
of people behind you, waiting to try it! Best of all,
you stay outdoors for a comfortable amount of time.
Our flexible trail system means you won't be out
on a trip too long for you to enjoy, too far from your
car, and too far from comfort! We're very flexible and
and practical. All the winter fun, without the frigid!
WILL THE DOGS ENJOY THE RUN TOO?
Of course! These are our pals! We love our
dogs very much, and they are chosen because
they love what they do and are amazing sled dogs.
You'll be amazed at just HOW strong they are!
We are very empathetic to their needs, and that
is why we take alot of time to involve and train
our latest dogsledding fans. We need to make
sure that our dogs will be well handled! And,
to be a good musher, you have to learn how
to drive properly. Good sled dogs deserve
a good driver who isn't going to make their
days' job too difficult! So don't worry - you'll
have plenty of instruction time, and we'll also
match you up with a sled and a dogteam that
will suit you to the best of our ability. That
way you AND the dogs will enjoy your trip!
Our dogs are super loveable guys - and enjoy
being out with people. And hey, if you bring a
dog biscuit or two, I'm sure they won't complain!

for years, I can honestly tell you this incredible and unique breed of dog has a few surprises! And while
it is not recognized by any kennel club, it is the fastest sled dog in the world! You might be surprised
